speaking of which it’s a really polarizing issue but the fact of the matter is that
“widespread depression/mental illness jokes can contribute to people feeling comfortable with never trying to get better & create an environment that can be alienating & toxic to people in recovery”
and
“humor can be a valid & effective, even necessary, coping skill & comiseration can go a long way to help fight a feeling of isolation & self hatred in mentally ill people that positivity often can’t reach, the tone policing of mentally ill people is morally wrong & detrimental to us”
are both true statements & i am so fucking tired of never once seeing even a quarter ounce of nuance in the way this topic is addressed
